I'm baffled why so many people apparently liked Big Fish. But all the US critics I generally check out (Ebert, NYT, WaPo, SF Chronicle, Village Voice, Salon, Slate...) agree it sucked. Whew.
I found it very boring (it didn't help I was in an overheated cinema), sentimental and cutesy. Smarmy, even. And bogus southern accents don't help (one lil' bit, honeychile). Ick, ick, ick.
Ugh. I'm now officially over Tim Burton.
Hey, on a more optimistic note, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind looks good ("best movie in a decade", says Dave Edelstein on Slate. Gosh!).

Charlie Kaufman is revealing himself as the very first pure screenwriter with a distinctive voice in the history of cinema ... directors bow to his vision and are inspired by him. And I'm in love with all the Clementines of the world ...
Posted by: Chris Marstall at March 27, 2004 04:06 AMJust watched the DVD and, generally, I like this film. I like its flow of story telling, the atmosphere the director created, plus the soft and sweet southern accent, especially for the "a" sound. Yet, I feel strange for Jessica Lange's role... I don't understand the scene she joined her husband lying in the bath tub... anyway, this film also reminds me of Fried Green Tomatoes.
Of course, Ewan McGregor is the key person for my attention on this film. ^_*
