note ... this seemed as good a place as any to put this: milanjali maharaj, i found a fair-sized bundle of personal letters belonging to you in my mom's basement in a big box of other things that belonged to you but didn't look to be of much interest ... couldn't track you down any other way. i thought maybe you would self-google and find this. write me + i can send them (the letters) to you! chris marstall, 126 montgomery st., cambridge, ma

<chris 20030913> I agonize over whether American Splendor is a masterpiece.
<chris 20030808> Finally rediscovered paperrad.org, by the man who brought you psychedelic gumby.
<chris 20030807> This reminds me of something out of Tin-Tin, for some reason: an italian town that has annual tub races, started in 1968 by a hippie who wanted to reconnect the townspeople to the river that ran through. I'm so inspired by the passengers of flight 93, here is some new news about their heroism

<chris 20030724> Well, I've been in New York for the week, burning the candle at both ends, seeing friends. Three good friends are leaving NYC this week, leading to reflections on the roaming nature of people, who never seem to stay in the same place for long ... I put The Blue Note, a short story I wrote last year, up for your enjoyment!

<chris 20030715> Hrmm... Could I end up like "my father's generation"? Not that my father, who is self-employed, has ever been laid off, as far as I know. The Baghdad Blogger is back! Vladimir Spidla, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, is a sharp dresser! Apparently there is a massively popular show on French TV called Nice People. I guess it's a reality show. In June "nice people" was the most popular search on google.fr, according to Google Zeitgeist

<chris 20030710> Max has finally begun to contact the world and report from his desert location. There are vineyards in New England. It is perhaps a bit late to make this point, but it just struck me that the World Trade Center attacks have made cosmopolitanism much more American.
<chris 20030709> Last weekend Zack and Liza, Caireen and Hugh came from NYC to visit. We enjoyed White Pond a great deal and experienced great heat. Then I got sick and rented The Last Seduction and 9 To 5.
<chris 20030708> Typed "python" on my server today, never having done any programming in the language and perhaps having looked at six lines of python code in a web tutorial. So far I love it! Today something sad happened, and something exciting happened. I am interested in the AIDS debate because of what it says about scientific rhetoric and, occasionally, experimental web design!
<chris 20030707> Long weekend. The office is getting pretty empty. A story for those who, like some of us, obsessively imagined when we were young how a high-speed people mover might be implemented.

Chrissy: there's something about blogs
Chrissy: and the internet in general
Chrissy: things that were once SO difficult to learn about, hear about, know
Chrissy: are now freely, immediately available
Chrissy: and it happened so quickly
Chrissy: that it doesn't even occur to me to
Chrissy: say, check to see if william gibson has a blog
Chrissy: William Gibson's blog
ebrunar: i'm not sure i get what you mean
Chrissy: like the daily intimite thoughts of one's idols
Chrissy: that you usually had to wait for magazine interviews
Chrissy: or holy of holies, encounters
ebrunar: ah ok
Chrissy: are now suddenly there
Chrissy: without fanfare
Chrissy: (not much fanfare in the silent, non-linear surfspace)
<chris 20030626> Many people eat about twice as much food as they need. I swear, Starbucks coffee has WAY more caffeine than other places. Places like Salisbury Beach still exist!
<chris 20030625> spent Tuesday at Chesterfield Gorge, hours playing in the standing waves of the rapids. Trying to get from one submerged rock to another and enjoying the powerful currents. I call it horsefishing, but others might refer to it as river-standing. Images to come. If you have any questions for the Friedmans, ask Jesse. Found a useful collection of pictures of movie theatres. I went to MIT Trash day with reed, nelson and jimmy and got an old reel-ro-reel tape player, a sparcstation and a wire-wound circuit board. Looked the Sparcstation up on Ebay, they go for about $40. Spent $17.95 on ebay for an adapter to hook it up to my pc monitor. Requested my rental history from Netflix. You be the judge as to whether it's worth $20 a month. Went to the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village over the weekend. Laughed so hard at Adam Ferrara that one of my disposable contacts fell out.

<chris 20030618> Last night had a long discussion with Ben at Casita's birthday party. Among other things, we talked about the amazing "Rosemary's Baby: The Musical" by Ryan Landry, which I saw last year at Ramrod. Everyone was excited about Burning Man and The Rainbow Gathering, which is next month in Utah. The primary difference between the two: no generators at Rainbow.

<chris 20030616> Today, Reed told me about cross-eyed stereo viewing. I was able to do it successfully almost right away. 23 million years ago, color vision ended human pheromone use, and now 7% of European males are sophisticated enough to think black and white is sexier than color.
<chris 20030615> Lost the trail; missed the rolling exhibition of Max's wheat paste and graf creations. Unfortunately, I don't like Dick Francis as much as I had hoped, given Sam's recommendation. Drank whiskey with Teseo and Edwina at Central Kitchen; we talked about The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the Mexico City subway system, and Edwina's sister, who saw a wild puma in southern Mexico. She's down there restoring paintings.
<chris 20030614> Today, I went to the Cambridge River Festival with Max, Lucy and Michael. Ran into Amber, who I mistakenly called April several times. Also ran into Casita, Gabby and Eric! Later, we all went to the Lizard Lounge and the VFW Hall. Depressive all day since I was hung over, since I went to a party and Sam and Tim's place in Charlestown last night and drank too much. Spent an hour or two shopping in Harvard Square with no money and felt appreciative of The Game Workshop on Dunster St., the Garage in general, Schoenhof's, which I again failed to enter, and various old and new places.
