Working on the Ice Road

After recently reading an online article from Popular Mechanics about Autopia Ampere, I picked up a copy of the magazine at the airport this week.

In it I learned that there is a 370-some-mile-long ice highway in Canada's Northwest Territory, built over frozen lakes each winter to service the diamond mines. I learned that Canada's diamonds were discovered in 1991 and that they are now the world's third largest diamond supplier.

You can read the whole article and watch a music video by a guy who works the road.

Very cool music video. Chilling, even.

Interesting. BTW, BLDBLOG on the world's biggest diamond mine led me indirectly to The Diamond Invention, which argues diamonds are a century-long monopoly marketing scam by De Beers & Co.
